Healthy Homes Design Competition 2022

Help us change the way we build: towards healthy and sustainable homes

For 80 years, VELUX has been providing daylight and fresh air to people’s homes around the world. To us, a sustainable home is one that puts the inhabitants’ health, comfort and well-being at the center, and does so with a minimal footprint on the environment. In our demonstration houses and research projects, we have shown that people’s and the planet’s health can go hand-in-hand. With our Sustainability Strategy for 2030, we are now on a mission to convert these learnings into design practice, and we would like to challenge students and young professionals to try by themselves.

This page is for participants in the REHVA Healthy Homes Design Competition to find inspiration, knowledge and tools to design the healthy and sustainable homes of the future.

Our vision for tomorrow’s homes

Together with EFFEKT, MOE and Leaderlab, VELUX has developed a holistic vision for creating better living environments by putting people and the planet in the center. This approach, named Build for Life, provides a framework and suggests design strategies to tackle the current housing challenges – among others, affordability, health and environmental footprint.

What do healthy and sustainable homes look like?

You can find here a collection of exemplary housing projects around the world. Some of these projects do not fulfil the criteria of the Healthy Homes Design Competition, but they show various inspiring ways of building with health and sustainability in mind. Over the years, VELUX has built more than thirty full-scale sustainable and healthy demonstration buildings around the world.

It’s our nature

Our sustainability strategy is a 10-year transformational journey in which we pioneer climate and nature action, innovate sustainable products and secure a responsible business. Why? Because the world needs it and it is who we are. It’s simply the right thing to do and it’s our nature!
